On a day when heavy rains pounded Nyahururu, Livingstone Talel, a golfer from Eldoret, emerged victorious in the Chairman's (Ndegwa Wahome) prize at Nyahururu Sports Club, with a sterling round of 47 stableford points.
August 31, 2019, was a challenging day for golfers at the club, but Talel, who plays off a handicap of 21, braved the conditions to claim the top prize. The tournament, presented by Madison Group, attracted a field of 145 golfers.
Talel's round included a birdie on the par 5 sixth hole and three pars on the par 5 fourth, par 3 eighth, and par 4 ninth holes. He bogeyed several holes, including the opener, par 4 second, par 3 third, par 4 fifth, and par 4 seventh.
At the turn, Talel sank three back-to-back pars on the par-5 10th, par 4 11th, par 3 12th, and par 4 16th holes. He picked up bogeys on the par 4 13th, par 5 15th, par 3 13th, and the final hole, a par 4 18th.
His only double-bogey for the day was on the par 4 14th, but it was enough for him to floor the competition. "I was being urged on by other players. This being my first time to play on this course, my victory came as a big surprise. I used the front-nine for my recce and acquainted myself and on the back nine, I had an easier sail," said Talel.
