On a sunny Sunday at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega, Kakamega Homeboyz stunned AFC Leopards 1-0 in a Kenyan Premier League match, with Stephen Etyang scoring the winning goal in the 83rd minute.

Leopards coach Casa Mbungo conceded defeat but emphasized that it's too early to judge his team, saying, 'We have a long journey to go. The boys played well. What is required of them is patience to succeed in the league.'

Kakamega Homeboyz tactician Nicholas Muyoti attributed the victory to the team's proper pre-season preparation, which included playing many friendly matches and rectifying mistakes.

Despite dominating the first half, Homeboyz struggled to capitalize on their chances, with Allan Wanga heading over the crossbar in the 5th minute and David Okoth's screamer being punched out by goalie Benjamin Ochan in the 40th minute.

After the breather, Mbungo made three substitutions, while Muyoti also made changes to his lineup, which included bringing in Shami Mwinyi, Dennis Nandwa, and Christopher Masinza.

Good work from AFC Leopards' overlapping defender Isaac Kipyego and Kayumba Soter saw the latter's shot parried over the crossbar by custodian David Juma in the 66th minute.

However, a lapse from AFC defender Robert Mundinyu allowed Etyang to capitalize and release a heavy shot that went beyond the reach of Ochan to secure the first goal in the 83rd minute.
