On Saturday night, a devastating road accident occurred at Nyakairu center, 15 kilometers from Naivasha town, claiming six lives and leaving nine others seriously injured.

The accident occurred when a truck heading to Naivasha collided head-on with an oncoming Nissan matatu, killing five people instantly. One person died while undergoing treatment at Naivasha Sub-county Hospital.

According to Naivasha Road Safety Association Chairman James Kabono, the lorry driver was at fault for the accident, having left his lane while overtaking a fleet of vehicles and colliding with the oncoming matatu.

Naivasha East MCA Stanley Karanja called for the installation of speed bumps to reduce fatal accidents, citing the need for traffic officers to contain speeding drivers.

Naivasha Deputy OCPD John Kwasa confirmed the accident, stating that the bodies of the six men had been collected and taken to the area mortuary. He emphasized the importance of caution and attributed speeding and careless overtaking as the primary causes of major accidents on the road.
