On September 1, 2019, a major breakthrough was made in the fight against car theft in Nairobi as three suspects were arrested in connection with a notorious syndicate.

The suspects, Francis Kinyanjui, 53, Stephen Njoroge, 33, and Gladys Wanjiku, 36, were apprehended at West View Plaza in Kahawa West.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the three are part of a gang that has been terrorizing residents of Kasarani and Roysambu by stealing vehicles from unsuspecting members of the public after stupefying them during drinking sessions in nightclubs.

Area OCPD Peter Kimani revealed that Stephen Njoroge, the leader of the gang, has been on the police's radar for a long time due to his involvement in the theft of several vehicles in the area.

Following numerous complaints from residents, detectives launched undercover investigations, which led to the successful operation on Saturday.

During the operation, police confiscated two stolen vehicles, several smartphones, SIM cards, and psychotropic drugs. A fourth suspect is still at large, and the police are working to apprehend them.

The three suspects are being detained at Kasarani Police Station pending arraignment in court next week.
