On Saturday morning, Professor Barasa Wangila, the founding Vice-Chancellor of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), lost his life to cancer at Aga Khan University Hospital in Kisumu while undergoing treatment.
Professor Barasa Wangila had been battling cancer for 22 years, with the first symptoms appearing in 1997 when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. His brother, Tito Wangila, reported that after the initial treatment, Professor Barasa lived a healthy life until the disease recurred early this year.
Professor Barasa Wangila was a dedicated man who remained committed to his work. He was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of MMUST in 2006 by former President Mwai Kibaki and successfully led the institution to achieve great heights.
