Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has confirmed that the Langata-Ngong Road connection via Kibra is nearing completion, with an anticipated official opening in June. The project, designed to integrate the Kibera link road across the slum to Lang’ata from Ngong Road, features installed girder beams and a dual-carriageway layout.
Director General Silas Kinoti stated that 3-4 minutes of travel time will be saved between Langata and Ngong Road through Kibra, with the project expected to open within months. He noted the involvement of government contractors in constructing a 2km dual-carriageway section, including underpasses, overpasses, bridges, and pedestrian walkways.
Work on the Kibra-Southern Bypass Interchange road, initiated in September 2020, includes service roads, bus bays, and footpaths. Kinoti emphasized the project’s alignment with the Big Four Agenda, aiming to enhance infrastructure and improve living conditions for residents.
"Urban roads are critical for economic growth, linking industrial, commercial, and social activities," Kinoti said. "Our focus remains on delivering safe, efficient transport networks as mandated under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007."
KURA, established in 2007, has managed 172km of new roads, 167.7km of rehabilitated roads, 36 bridges, 288.8km of walkways, and 431.8km of maintained roads since its inception.
