On September 1, 2019, flying squad officers made a significant arrest in the ongoing crackdown on Statehouse impostors.

A man in his mid-40s, who had been conning numerous businessmen by claiming to work at the Statehouse, was finally caught in the act.

According to reports, the suspect was earlier arrested in Limuru for allegedly shortchanging a trader of Ksh 3 million with a promise to secure the trader a government job.

The suspect, who used top government officials' names and big office names to get money from businessmen, is claimed to have shortchanged two unknown businessmen about Ksh 10 million.

Flying squad chief officer Musa Yego confirmed that the suspect was using the names of top government officials, including Francis Muthaura, to deceive businessmen.

The suspect was charged with stealing through impersonation and was issued with eight arrest warrants by two Nairobi businessmen.

This incident highlights the increasing cases of conmen impersonating Statehouse officials, with earlier reports indicating that conmen got away with Ksh 80 million of a businessman after posing as President Uhuru Kenyatta.
