Sylvia Kavere Amuguni has carved a unique path as a Police Constable in Kenya's National Police Service, breaking barriers as the first female portrait artist within the organization. Her dual role as an artist and law enforcement officer highlights her versatility and dedication to both fields.
Amuguni's artistic journey began in primary school, where she discovered her talent for capturing human expressions and natural scenes. This passion led her to pursue formal training, earning a Diploma in Interior Design from Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts and a Diploma in Graphic Design from Africa Digital Media Institute. She also graduated from Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School, where she developed her foundational skills.
Deployed at the Security of Government Buildings (SGB) Unit, Amuguni has used her artistic abilities to create portraits for notable figures. Her work included a commissioned piece for President Uhuru Kenyatta, presented during the 2016 recruits passing out parade. She has also contributed to the Administration Police Rugby Team, showcasing her leadership and teamwork skills.
Beyond her professional achievements, Amuguni aims to establish an art school focused on nurturing talent among underprivileged and gifted youth. Her vision reflects a commitment to using her skills to uplift the community and inspire future generations.
As a trailblazer in a male-dominated field, Amuguni's story demonstrates how creativity and discipline can coexist in public service. Her work continues to inspire colleagues to explore their own talents while serving the nation.
