On a rare visit to Botswana, I met Satta Matturi, a Sierra Leone-born jeweller who has made a name for herself in designing exclusive collections for the ultra-high net worth individuals globally.

Her journey began at De Beers, where she spent 16 years learning about rough and polished diamonds, travelling to cutting centres, and meeting manufacturers and jewellery designers.

After leaving De Beers in 2015, Satta created her own brand, which caters to the ultra-high net worth individuals and high net worth individuals globally. Her African-themed jewellery ranges from Sh250,000 to Sh1.76 million.

What sets Satta's jewellery apart is its use of responsibly-sourced diamonds and other precious stones. Her designs are understated yet dramatic, featuring interesting geometric shapes and sunset hues.

According to Satta, her creations are inspired by West African culture and traditions, which celebrate the importance of women in society. Her target audience is the strong, independent, and refined woman who loves to indulge in beauty, colour, and magic.

With a base in Botswana, Southern Africa, and the UK, Satta's business is built on personal connections with her clients. She sees customers by appointment only, allowing her to have a personal moment with each client.
