On Friday afternoon, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's Twitter account was compromised by a group calling themselves the 'Chuckle Squad'.
The hackers tweeted a series of offensive messages, including racial slurs, antisemitic messages, and a Holocaust denial, from Dorsey's account.
The tweets were up for around 10 minutes before being removed.
According to Twitter, the hack began at 8:45pm UK time with the initial tweet: “Shoutout Debug, Corey, NuBLoM, Joe, Owen, & Aqua #ChucklingHella”.
Another tweet claimed there was a bomb at Twitter HQ.
Twitter has since pointed the blame at Dorsey's mobile phone network provider, stating that the phone number associated with the account was compromised due to a security oversight by the mobile provider.
It is believed that the hackers used Cloudhopper, a service Twitter bought to improve its SMS service, to send the tweets.
This is not the first time Dorsey's account has been hacked, with the account previously being compromised in 2016.
Twitter has stated that they are investigating the incident.
