On August 31, 2019, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal delivered a landmark ruling that invalidated the Amani National Congress's (ANC) attempt to expel nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi.

The tribunal found that the Registrar of Political Parties' decision to strike Osotsi's name from the party register was illegal, unlawful, an abuse of process, and an infringement on the MP's right to fair administrative action.

Osotsi, in a statement, welcomed the ruling, saying: 'Today the PPDT issued the twin rulings in the two cases I had filed at the tribunal ie complaint against ANC party following the purported expulsion from the party and an appeal against the decision of Registrar of Political Parties to strike my name from the party register.'

He added: 'In both cases, the tribunal found the two actions illegal, unlawful, abuse of process and an infringement of my rights to fair administrative action.'

Osotsi's win is seen as a significant setback for ANC's leadership, particularly party leader Musalia Mudavadi, who had been at the center of the controversy.

Osotsi has called on Mudavadi to demonstrate leadership and wisdom by bringing the 'embarrassing charade' to closure.
