On August 31, 2019, Gor Mahia FC announced plans to charge fans for coffins bearing the club's logo, citing financial difficulties following the departure of their shirt sponsor.
The decision was made public by Gor Mahia Secretary General Ben Omondi, who stated that the club would soon start charging anyone wishing to send their loved ones in a coffin bearing the official logo of the deceased's favourite club.
According to Omondi, the move is aimed at generating revenue for the club, which has been struggling financially since their shirt sponsor, SportPesa, pulled out of the deal due to the ongoing crackdown on betting firms in Kenya.
The club has been introducing various changes to streamline their revenue collection, including the introduction of e-ticketing for their upcoming matches.
As a result, families of fallen K'Ogalo fans may soon be forced to dig deeper into their pockets if they wish to have the club's logo on the caskets of their loved ones.
