Kenyan Premier League side Wazito FC has made a significant signing ahead of the new season, bringing back former Gor Mahia midfielder Ali Hassan Abondo from South African Premier Soccer League side Bloemfontein Celtic on August 30, 2019.
Abondo, who is also known as 'Teargas,' had previously moved to South Africa after joining Siwele as a free agent from Ajax Cape Town. He boasts vast experience in the Kenyan Premier League, having played for Sony Sugar, Bandari, Gor Mahia, and Tusker before moving to South Africa.
On his return to Kenya, Abondo expressed his excitement to be part of the NSL champions and KPL returnees, Wazito FC. 'I am happy to be back home. My time in South Africa was a little difficult because it's far away from home and it's totally a new environment with many challenges,' he said.
Abondo also stated that he is delighted to be joining Wazito FC because it's an ambitious team with high targets and he wants to be part of this exciting project. 'I will always work hard and give my best to the team,' he added.
Wazito FC's technical director, Simon Alubala, welcomed Abondo to the team, saying, 'Abondo is a quality player. He has really impressed during pre-season and I believe that he is a good addition to the team. He is a senior player and he will definitely be one of the leaders in the dressing room.'
Abondo's signing is part of Wazito FC's efforts to build a strong team, with the club also signing Mathew Tayo Odongo from Ugandan Premier League side, Uganda Revenue Authority FC, and central midfielder Brian Musa Loroo from Nairobi Stima. Amos Asembeka also returns to the club on a permanent deal.
