On Thursday, a group of governors faced criticism for keeping media representatives waiting for over two hours at a scheduled press conference.
According to reports, the event was supposed to start at 12:30 pm, but the governors did not arrive until 3 pm, leaving the media corps frustrated and waiting.
When the governors finally arrived, Rose Gakuo, an anchor with K24, did not mince her words, asking them why they did not keep to the scheduled time.
“…the invitation time sent to the media. We were told 12:30(pm), perhaps if we were told to come at 2(pm)we would have been here at 2. To be told to wait for two and a half hours is really unfair on our side,” charged Ms Gakuo.
Wycliffe Oparanya, the Kakamega County governor and Council of Governors chairman, intervened, explaining that sometimes critical issues need to be discussed.
He revealed that counties were struggling to pay salaries of their employees and might be shut down next month, with all operations in all counties set to stop on September 16, 2019.
“Beyond this date, if the matter is not resolved the county governments will have no option but to shut down,” Mr Oparanya said.
