On August 31, 2019, a brazen gang in Nairobi was caught on CCTV cameras breaking into a car belonging to Athanus Muema, who had just withdrawn Sh250,000 from a NIC Bank branch.

Muema had withdrawn the cash to buy construction materials in Nairobi's industrial area and parked his car outside a business premise on Enterprise Road, unaware that he was being trailed by criminals.

According to CCTV footage, a second car arrived and parked next to Muema's car, just moments after he entered the shop. An occupant of the car then broke into Muema's vehicle from the driver's side and stole Sh150,000 that he had left behind.

A woman who had been following Muema to the shop, possibly to monitor him as her accomplices broke into his car, quickly emerged and entered the second car before the gang drove away.

A guard at the gate claimed that the suspects told him they were with Muema, as reported by Nairobi News.
