On August 31, 2019, a fake letter claiming to be from Interpol sparked outrage in Kenya after it listed prominent individuals, including former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, as wanted by Interpol and US authorities in connection with drug trafficking.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji quickly denounced the letter, stating that it had not been received by his office.
Reacting to the DPP's statement, Kabogo demanded the arrest of those behind the fake document, warning that he would take action if nothing was done.
"Dismissing is not enough. It’s criminal to distribute such material. CALL FOR THE ARREST OF THOSE INVOLVED," Kabogo said.
"That’s what happens in countries that are guided by the rule of law. And if not let us know so we/and or I can defend myself as in the rule of the jungle," he added.
