Lipa Later Raises $12M to Expand Buy-Now-Pay-Later Services Across Africa

Lipa Later, a buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) platform operating in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Nigeria, has secured $12 million in a funding round led by Cauris Finance, Lateral Frontiers Ventures, GreenHouse Capital, SOSV IV LLC, Sayani Investments, and Axian Financial Services.

The equity and debt financing will support the company's expansion into new markets including Ghana and Tanzania, while doubling its footprint in existing regions. Lipa Later aims to leverage its proprietary credit scoring system to offer instant credit limits to users without traditional documentation requirements.

Founded in Kenya in 2018, the company has partnered with major retailers like Carrefour, Apple, and Samsung to provide installment payment options. Its API integration with e-commerce platforms allows merchants to offer flexible payment terms to consumers.
