FIFA has suspended Iran's Saman Ghoddos for four months over a contract dispute with Spanish club Huesca, a decision that was announced on August 31, 2019.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder was at the centre of a dispute that began in August 2018 when he moved from Ostersunds to Amiens in Ligue 1 for four million euros ($4.4m).
According to FIFA, Huesca had already agreed to buy Ghoddos from his Swedish club and the player had signed a contract. However, Ghoddos failed to honour the agreement, leading to the dispute.
"The player was ordered to pay compensation to SD Huesca and sporting sanctions were imposed on him and Ostersunds," FIFA said in an email, adding that "the decision is not yet final and binding".
Amiens, Ghoddos' current club, has released a statement expressing their disappointment at the heavy sanctions imposed on the player and their intention to support him morally during this period.
