Published on August 30, 2019, the first-ever sanctioned International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) match has finally arrived in Kenya, with the event kicking off at the Bamburi Rifle Club in Mombasa.

The match, sponsored by Crown Paints and SEAGAS Limited, among others, will see over 100 shooters battle it out in various categories. Kenya will be the second country in Africa to participate in the tournament, following South Africa.

Match director Sammy Onyango expressed his excitement, saying, 'It seemed impossible until it was possible. We are happy that we have finally brought this event home.'

The National Gun Owners Association (NGAO-K) Chairman Anthony Wahome urged the country's sports authorities to start embracing sports tourism, citing the potential benefits of hosting international events.

The event has drawn international participants from Italy, Germany, India, and the USA, among others. Coast team Captain Abdul Hakim noted that the courses of fire may appear easy from the outside but are actually challenging, requiring shooters to align their eyes well and aim accurately.

Officials from the Mombasa County government were present at the pre-match event, with Chief Tourism Officer Nadia Ahmed highlighting the potential for the partnership to boost sports tourism in the county.

The safety officers who will officiate during the official match tested their skills ahead of the main event, demonstrating their expertise in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
