This archive report was first published on 30 August 2019.

On August 30, 2019, a fake letter claiming to be from Interpol was circulated on social media, listing prominent Kenyans, including former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, as allegedly wanted by Interpol and US authorities in connection with drug trafficking.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji denounced the letter, stating that it was not received by his office and was a fabrication.

Reacting to the DPP's statement, Kabogo demanded the arrest of those behind the fake document, warning that dismissing the matter was not enough and that it was a criminal act to distribute such material.

"Dismissing is not enough. It’s criminal to distribute such material. CALL FOR THE ARREST OF THOSE INVOLVED," Kabogo said in a statement.

"That’s what happens in countries that are guided by the rule of law. And if not let us know so we/and or I can defend myself as in the rule of the jungle," Kabogo warned.
