On August 30, 2019, the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) announced the Kenya ladies national golf team for the Gilberson and Page trophy tournament, a tri-nation competition against Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The team, described by KLGU chairman Phyllis Kimbo as the 'strongest team ever,' will face off in the first test match at Karen Country Club on Tuesday.
Kimbo, who is also the team manager, revealed that the seven-player team was selected during a team trial at Sigona Golf Club three weeks ago from a pool of over 20 golfers who had been training under national junior coach John van Liefland.
According to Kimbo, the team consists of experienced golfers, including Joyce Wanjiru from Kiambu Golf Club, Agnes Nyakio and Mercy Nyanchama of Vet Lab, Esther Chumo from Eldoret, Florence Maina of Muthaiga Golf Club, Wanjiru Karume (team captain) from Kiambu, and Margaret Njoki from Golf Park.
