At the Rugby Football Union of East Africa grounds, the stage is set for a thrilling Christie Sevens tournament this weekend, with five teams still in the running for the Stanbic Bank National Sevens Series title.

Leaders Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Mwamba, separated by just three points at the top of the series standings, only need to reach the final to make the final leg, Driftwood in Mombasa next weekend, a two-horse race.

Defending champions Homeboyz, Nakuru, and Menengai Oilers are among the chasing pack, which will need to reach the final at Christie to have a chance of winning the Series, provided KCB and Mwamba fail to progress beyond the quarter-finals.

Current leaders KCB and Mwamba have won two legs each this season, with 72 and 69 points respectively.

It will be an interesting affair if both teams reach the final, with Mwamba potentially carrying the day, resulting in a tie on 91 points each heading to Mombasa.

Coaches Dennis 'Ironman' Mwanja of KCB and Louis Kisia of Mwamba have made changes to their squads ahead of the tournament, with Mwanja replacing injured players Jacob Ojee and Vincent Onyala, and Kisia recalling Daniel Taabu and Stephen Sikuta.

Homeboyz, who last won the Christie crown in 2013, face Pirates from Uganda in their opening match, while Nakuru tackle South Africa-based Blue Bulls and TUKS before meeting Masinde Muliro University and Kabras Sugar in Pool 'C'.
