Kenya has taken a significant leap in its digital transformation, boasting the fastest internet speed in Africa and the Middle East, with an average of 15mbps.

According to recent reports, Kenya's impressive internet speed is followed by Israel at 14.4mbps, South Africa at 6.6mbps, Morocco at 5.2mbps, and Nigeria at 4.1mbps.

As a result, Kenyans are now able to take advantage of numerous income-generating opportunities, including buying and selling goods and services online.

With the internet transforming the world into a global village, Kenya is no exception, with thousands of transactions taking place daily in the digital economy.

As the digital economy continues to play a significant role in economic growth, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has launched the "Digital Economy Blueprint" this year, urging Kenyans to seize the opportunities created by the internet.

Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru noted that the digital economy will connect Kenyans to the world, where their goods, services, and expertise will be accessible across borders, opening up new markets.

Furthermore, the recent move by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to engage key players in the digital economy on taxation is a step in the right direction, as it will help generate more revenue for development.

As Matthew Mworia, a resident of Karatina, aptly put it, "I wish to urge all county governments to develop ICT centres for the youth. This way, we will be able to create more jobs."

"The strategy has enabled the government to rollout the National Optic Fibre Broadband Infrastructure that has linked all the counties to the Internet by fibre cable. Fibre cable ground installation and provision of 4G network coverage has contributed to the high speeds and efficiency in connectivity," said Mr Mucheru.
