Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) CEO Jonny Anderson is set to leave his position on September 30, 2019, two months before his three-year term expires. According to a statement, Anderson cited personal reasons for his early departure.
Anderson's term was initially set to expire on November 21, 2019. However, he requested the board to allow him to leave earlier, a request that was granted. The KAA boss has also advised that he does not wish to renew his contract.
During his tenure, JKIA was named as the best improved airport in Africa, best airport in Africa, and number 38 in the world. The airport also received the Africa airport of the year in air cargo award.
Anderson was appointed KAA CEO on November 20, 2018. He previously served as the Director of National Airports at Avinor in Norway.
Anderson's departure comes amidst a successful tenure, with the KAA boss being remembered for leading the team in achieving the Last Point of Departures status for JKIA, paving the way for direct flights between the USA and Kenya.
According to KAA chairman Isaac Awuondo, Anderson's position will be filled through a competitive process that will commence in the next few weeks. In the meantime, the Board will appoint an acting CEO and exercise closer oversight to ensure a smooth transition.
Anderson's departure is effective September 30, 2019, and he will be leaving behind a legacy of success at the KAA.
