Published on August 30, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has started cracking down on building owners in the city centre who failed to repaint their properties as directed.
County officials had given owners until the end of July to repaint their buildings, but many failed to heed the directive.
Acting County Secretary Leboo Morintat said in a statement that the county believes all owners received the notice, which was published in local dailies, and that's why they are now taking action.
Some of the buildings targeted include Ambassador House, Loise House, Jiame House, Karachi House, Leon House, and Commercial House, among others.
On Thursday, over 10 people were arrested and charged for breaching the Public Health Cap 242 and County By-Laws.
The law requires that buildings in the Nairobi city centre be repainted after every two years.
Those arrested include Jane Asena, caretaker of Karachi House, Charles Ndung'u Mwangi, director of one of the buildings on Latema/Lagos Road, and Ann Nana Matei, among others.
According to Morintat, the county will shut down premises that have not been repainted and will continue to take action against those who breach the law.
