On Thursday, August 30, 2019, police discovered a man carrying Ksh. 3 million in cash during a crackdown on contraband goods on the Mwingi-Garissa highway.

According to Mwingi Central police boss Peter Mutuma, the man was identified as 20-year-old Abdirahman Abdi.

During the incident, over ten vehicles were impounded at Mutwangombe area after they were found carrying contraband goods, including banned charcoal, bales of polythene bags, boxes of canned fish, and other items.

Police suspect that the goods being transported into the country originated from Somalia.

The drivers of the said vehicles will be arraigned at the Mwingi Law Courts.

Police commander Peter Mutuma noted that such unaccustomed goods seized are taking away from the government in terms of revenue.
