On July 19, Tob Cohen, a billionaire, went missing, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions. However, a crucial breakthrough in the case came when detectives discovered a mobile phone that had been used to triangulate Cohen's location days before his disappearance.
The phone's location revealed that Cohen had been at his home in Kitisuru, where he had been fired from by his wife, Sarah Wairimu. This discovery led to Wairimu's arrest, with detectives now believing that Cohen was murdered and that his wife had something to do with it.
According to sources, the investigation is now focused on finding out where Cohen's body is and who else was involved in his disappearance. The police have also discovered that Wairimu had written a letter to the Dutch Embassy in Nairobi, stating that her husband required medical attention, just days before he went missing.
However, it has emerged that Wairimu had told friends and the media that Cohen had left the country for Thailand to seek treatment. The police are now investigating an entry into the Occurrence Book at Kilimani Police Station, which shows that Cohen was also reported missing at the same time. It is alleged that Wairimu filed the report.
Wairimu's arrest comes after detectives discovered that she had instructed her workers to lie about Cohen's departure. The workers had initially told investigators that Cohen had been picked up by a white car on the afternoon of July 20, never to be seen again. However, phone records revealed that the workers were not in the vicinity at the time they claimed to have seen Cohen leaving.
It has also emerged that Cohen had written to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, asking him to investigate senior officers at the Gigiri Police Division, whom he accused of covering up his wife's hostilities towards him. Cohen had also discovered that his wife was secretly developing some property in Nyeri and was not happy about it.
Wairimu's lawyer, Musyoki Mogaka and Co Advocates, had written to the Director of Public Prosecutions, stating that Cohen was being persecuted because he was not a Kenyan national. The lawyer added that Cohen was anxious about his security in the weeks preceding his disappearance and was also troubled that Wairimu was trying to get him arrested.
It has also emerged that Cohen had filed an assault complaint against Wairimu at the Parklands Police Station in February after they had a fight. However, Wairimu also filed an assault complaint at the Mwimuto Police post, which is next to Kitisuru, the same night.
Wairimu had also posted a video on YouTube, in which she painted her husband as a cruel man with alcohol and substance abuse issues. In the video, she alleges that their problems began on December 18 last year during a traditional wedding for her daughter, when Cohen suddenly lost his cool and started shouting that he was going to divorce her in front of guests.
She adds that he got so drunk at the function that he started soliciting for sex from her daughter's friends. Wairimu also claims that Cohen had a history of soliciting for sex from her daughter's friends and that he was bisexual.
