On August 30, 2019, former Dagoretti Member of Parliament Dennis Waweru called on the Asset Recovery Agency to take action against county officials who have misappropriated funds meant for grassroots development.

Kenya has disbursed over Sh1.2 trillion to its 47 counties since the onset of devolution in 2013, with some counties using the resources effectively while others have been accused of theft and abuse of office.

Mr. Waweru, who is also the Chairman of the Kenya Investment Authority Board, urged Kenyans not to condone corruption orchestrated by governors and their county officers.

“We envisioned grassroots growth and an accelerated fight against poverty across the country by devolving resources to counties. However, some governors have made public funds their personal kitty,” he said.
