Two suspects who fled Kapsoya Police Station in Uasin Gishu County were recaptured in Kisumu on Wednesday, according to police reports.
The individuals, Mohammed Aden Hussein, 18, and Elvis Odhiambo, 17, had escaped from the station on November 11, 2021, while awaiting trial for robbery with violence at Eldoret Law Court. A police report confirmed their arrest with assistance from local boda boda riders in Manyatta.
Three remandees initially broke out of the station, but one was apprehended while the pair evaded capture. Agnes Akinyi Ogweno, assistant chief of Manyatta 'A' Sub Location, revealed her office received intelligence about the suspects' arrival in Kisumu on Sunday and their location in Corner Mbaya.
Following the tip, a manhunt was initiated. By Tuesday night, the suspects were spotted near the Mosque area on the Nyamasaria Kasagam-Kondele bypass. On Wednesday morning at approximately 7 a.m., they were observed walking toward Usodho in rags, carrying clothes and shoes in carrier bags.
Witnesses described the pair disguising themselves as street urchins collecting plastic waste. Local residents and boda boda riders collaborated to arrest them after a tip from an official tracking the suspects. One suspect attempted to flee but was subdued near a garage and taken to Kosawo hall.
Police later questioned the suspects, who provided conflicting identities. Mohammed Aden initially claimed to be Jack Otieno from Busia but was identified after shaving his hair to conceal his appearance. The duo was held at Kondele Police Station pending transfer back to Kapsoya.
