Shaffi Bakari, Kenya's flyweight champion, made history by becoming the first Kenyan to reach the final in boxing at the Africa Games since 2007.
On August 29, 2019, Bakari secured a silver medal in the men's 52kg flyweight category at the African Games in Rabat, Morocco, after suffering a 5-0 loss to Botswana's Mohammed Rajab in the final match.
His impressive journey to the final began with a bye to the second round, followed by a win over Said Mortaji, and then a knockout victory over Ugandan Businge Champion in the quarterfinals.
Bakari's achievement was part of a successful outing for Kenyan boxers at the African Games, with Boniface Mogunde and Fredrick Ramogi also winning bronze medals in their respective categories.
