On August 27, 2019, Ethiopian Airlines faced criticism after a passenger claimed he was rejected at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi due to his disability.
Mr. Harun Hassan, a passenger with a disability, took to Twitter to express his disappointment, alleging that he was left stranded at the check-in counter at 5am despite declaring his status as a person living with disability.
He claimed that a supervisor, Judy, denied him entry, stating that there was no provision for assistance. Mr. Hassan further alleged that he has traveled alone around the world but has never experienced such mistreatment from any airline.
However, Ethiopian Airlines responded to the allegations, stating that Mr. Hassan's booking was not accepted due to miscommunication. They offered an apology and a Business Class ticket, but Mr. Hassan declined, opting to fly with a different airline instead.
