As the census exercise enters its final stretch, Nakuru County has made significant progress, with 88% of targeted houses already counted.
Principal Secretary for Housing and Planning Charles Hinga led government officers in supervising the exercise in Naivasha, where he praised the county leadership for an impressive job despite facing challenges.
“Nakuru County has so far recorded 88 per cent in terms of coverage while in Naivasha town the figures stand at 89 per cent and this is very impressive,” Hinga said.
He added that the government had rolled out all its machinery in the final stage to ensure that all those who had not been captured could get a chance to be counted.
“We hope that by the end of Saturday all those who have missed out will get a chance to be counted in this exercise that is very critical,” Hinga said.
The figures obtained from the exercise will be handy for planning the State’s affordable housing programme, with Hinga noting that some of the questions asked surround the issue of the type of houses one is living and the number of occupants.
Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui termed the exercise as very smooth, adding that few challenges had been recorded.
