On August 29, 2019, Capwell Industries, a Nairobi-based processor, marked its entry into Kenya's beverage market with the launch of Yola, a ready-to-drink cereal milk snack.

The product, which was produced at a new Ksh 250 million factory, comes in a variety of flavors and is part of the firm's strategic direction to diversify its business.

Capwell Industries, which also produces Soko Maize Flour, Pearl rice, and Ranee Spaghetti, aims to innovate and develop products that meet the needs of Kenyan consumers at the point of health, convenience, and utility.

“Following the quarter of a billion shilling investment, Capwell Industries has now become a fully-fledged food and beverage company with the introduction of Yola as our first foray into the cereal milk drink and thus beverage category,” said Rajan Shah, Group Chief Executive Officer.

According to Shah, the introduction of Yola is a strategic growth move that responds to an evolving Kenyan food culture, with cereal milk drinks being popular across the Southern African region.

Yola is available in two sizes, 250 ml and 450ml, priced at Ksh 40 and Ksh 60 respectively, and is suitable for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or as a snack on the go.

Capwell Industries anticipates that Yola will catch on quickly in peri-urban and rural areas due to its long shelf life, and offers a growth driver in a category expected to grow by at least 50% over the next ten years.
