Chris Smalling's Uncertain Future at Man United ¶
Manchester United defender Chris Smalling's future at the club remains uncertain, with reports suggesting he is closing in on a loan move to AS Roma.
Smalling, 31, has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the arrival of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who have formed a solid partnership in the heart of the club's defence.
According to Goal, citing Gianluca Di Marzio, a deal between Manchester United and AS Roma has already been agreed, with Smalling set to join the Italian club on a season-long loan.
Smalling's exit comes just a day after the departure of Alexis Sanchez, who also left United on a season-long loan move to Inter Milan.
Manchester United have seven centre-backs in their ranks, including Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, youngster Axel Tuanzebe, and injured Eric Bailly.
Should Smalling complete a move to Italy, he will become the third Man United player to move to the Serie A this summer.
Smalling has not featured for Manchester United in the three Premier League matches of the new season, and his future at the club looks increasingly bleak.
