On August 29, 2019, the Kenyan government cleared sports betting firm Betway to resume its operations in the country.
Earlier this year, Betway was among several sports betting companies whose licenses were revoked due to non-compliance with regulations.
However, after a period of uncertainty, Betway has announced that it will reopen its operations in Kenya two months after its license was revoked.
According to a statement released by the company, Betway has met all the requirements set by the government and has been cleared to resume its operations.
The company has also announced that it has increased its tax contribution to 20% for all winners.
Other sports betting companies, including SportsPesa and BetIn, whose licenses have not been renewed, have taken the government to court over the decision to ban their operations.
