On August 28, 2019, police detained Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, the wife of missing Dutch national Tob Cohen, as part of the ongoing investigation into his disappearance.

Mr. Cohen, a Dutch business tycoon, had been missing since July 19, 2019, from their home in Lower Kabete, Nairobi. His wife had been questioned by police three times prior to her detention.

According to police, Mr. Cohen had an ongoing divorce case and had filed assault claims against his wife of 12 years. Mrs. Wairimu's lawyer, Philip Murgor, stated that his client was innocent and did not understand why police made the move to arrest her.

Police investigations revealed that Mr. Cohen had met a woman at a restaurant in Westlands area over lunch on the day he went missing. The woman and Mr. Cohen were friends, and they parted ways at about 2pm when his mobile phone was switched off.

Since then, Mr. Cohen has not been found on phone, and his family had approached the Dutch police saying they could not reach him. The Dutch embassy in Nairobi reported the matter to police, and investigations were commenced.

It has since emerged that Mr. Cohen and his wife were not in talking terms by the time he went missing and they spent their nights in separate rooms. Police have visited the home where the couple lived and interrogated workers there.

Workers at his home told police that Mr. Cohen removed security cameras he had installed at their home days before he went missing. Mrs. Wairimu replaced them two weeks after he went missing.

Police have confirmed that Mr. Cohen never flew out of the country as claimed by the wife that he intended to fly to Thailand for medical attention.
