On August 28, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Nyamira, Kenya, resulting in the death of a boda boda operator, Amos Jomo.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when a police officer, allegedly, accused Jomo of stealing a mango that the officer had been guarding.

However, the officer's claim was disputed by Jomo, who maintained that he had not taken the mango.

As the dispute escalated, the police officer and two of his colleagues, James Nyakina and Charles Chepkwony, began to physically assault Jomo, leading to his eventual death.

The incident sparked widespread outrage, with locals taking to the streets to protest against police brutality.

Speaking to the press, a local resident expressed their frustration, saying, "We have had numerous problems in this area of Nyamatoki due to the abuse of power by police officers. Our children have been beaten by police officers, and no action has been taken."

Following the incident, the three police officers were arrested and charged with Jomo's murder.

They are expected to appear in court on August 29, 2019.

Additionally, the police commissioner for the region, Amos Omariba, announced that the police chief and his deputy would be suspended pending an investigation into the incident.

"I have taken note of the situation and have suspended the police chief and his deputy. They must report to me before I take any further action," Omariba said.
