On August 28, 2019, Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju clarified the nomination process for the Kibra by-election, stating that only National Elections Board chairman Andrew Musangi would issue statements on nominations.

This decision appears to be aimed at addressing widely reported rifts within the party, brought about by statements issued from different quarters on the November 7 Kibra poll.

According to Tuju, his office has no role under the party constitution to deal with nomination issues, other than communicating decisions of the NEB chairperson.

Interested members seeking nomination in the Kibra by-election have been called upon to file applications by Friday, August 30, 2019.

The applications will be scrutinized before qualified candidates are invited for interviews between Saturday and Monday.

These developments come after a last-minute intervention by Deputy President William Ruto saved the day for footballer McDonald Mariga's bid to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat, after a section of Jubilee Party officials allegedly tried to bar him.
