Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders has been handed a 10-week jail term for failing to provide a breath test after being pulled over on suspicion of drink-driving in Chester, England.
On May 10, Saunders was stopped by authorities in Boughton, Chester, and initially denied the accusations before later pleading guilty on August 27.
During the court hearing, Saunders claimed his asthma prevented him from giving a breath sample, but the judge rejected this excuse, stating that Saunders had shown 'no real remorse' and considered himself 'above the law.'
As part of his sentence, Saunders has also been banned from driving for up to two and a half years upon his release from prison and ordered to pay court costs of £620.
The defense has vowed to appeal the ruling, arguing that the sentence is 'excessive.'
