As the Kibra by-election heats up, three political parties are vying for the soul of Nairobi politics. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has already submitted the names of 11 out of 20 aspirants who will battle for the party's ticket, while the Jubilee Party has called on interested members to file applications by Friday.
However, the choice of candidate by the Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress (ANC) has sparked interest. ANC has given Management consultant Eliud Owalo an opportunity to hit back at his former boss, opposition leader Raila Odinga, by contesting in the Kibra by-election.
ANC bigwigs unveiled Owalo on Wednesday at the party headquarters to contest against Jubilee and ODM candidates in the ODM stronghold. Owalo lost to the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth in the ODM primaries ahead of the 2017 election.
Butere MP Tindi Mwale claimed that Okoth told him when he came back from abroad after treatment that Owalo was the right person to succeed him. ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi challenged residents to vote wisely to ensure they access good social amenities and policies that can change their lives.
ANC's candidate, Eliud Owalo, promised to ensure the people of Kibra access social amenities, defend the locals, and work with them towards growth. He also vowed to expand the democratic space, enhance good governance, human rights, access to health, education, shelter, and youth and women empowerment.
