On August 28, 2019, Maryanne Kitany made explosive claims against her estranged husband, Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, alleging that he received explicit photos from other women while they were together.

Kitany, who was testifying in court, claimed that she discovered the explicit photos on Linturi's phone and that this, along with being denied conjugal rights, drove her to seek a divorce.

She alleged that Linturi would often come home late and refused to give her her conjugal rights, and that one of their housemaids had told her that Linturi would bring other women to their home.

Kitany's testimony came after a magistrate ruled that the couple's dirty linen would continue to be aired in public, cautioning journalists against misreporting the case.

The court also noted that the couple had decided to have the matter heard in public and that it would remain as such.

Kitany's claims come after a housemaid, Edith Kinanu, died under mysterious circumstances in Linturi's home in 2018. The family had blocked attempts to perform an autopsy, sparking speculation about the cause of her death.
