Edward Ouko, the outgoing Auditor General, ended his eight-year non-renewable term on Monday, sparking speculation about his future.
With his tenure coming to an end, observers have noted that Ouko would be an ideal candidate to replace embattled Treasury CS Henry Rotich.
However, Ouko has dismissed these reports, stating, 'I have not been approached by anybody for anything.'
Speaking at the University of Nairobi this week, Ouko emphasized his commitment to fighting corruption and impunity, saying, 'There's still so much to do and I think it's our collective responsibility whether you're in government or not for the fight corruption and impunity to continue.'
During his tenure, Ouko faced several challenges, including an unmotivated workforce due to poor salaries and a lack of receptivity to technology.
Despite these challenges, Ouko implemented changes to improve the situation, leaving behind solid systems to prevent his staff from being compromised.
He also proposed several reforms, including allowing the auditor general to make statements during budget readings and conducting serious lifestyle audits in counties.
