On August 29, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Homa Bay County, where a 56-year-old man lost his life at the hands of his own brother.

Joseph Olale, a resident of Ahero in Kisumu County, had traveled to his rural home in Kamato Pundo village, Suba North Constituency, to participate in the national census.

However, his visit turned tragic as he was killed by his younger brother, Ben Olale, in a dispute over land.

According to Lambwe West location Chief Daniel Obure, a fistfight ensued between the two brothers before Ben hacked Joseph to death with a machete.

The incident occurred just a few hours after census officials had visited the homestead and enumerated the family.

Police Commander for Mbita Sub-County, Mr. Charles Mwangi, confirmed that the suspect had fled the scene but was later arrested.

Ben Olale is expected to be arraigned on murder charges.
