On August 29, 2019, ANC unveiled former Raila Odinga strategist Eliud Owalo as its candidate in the Kibra by-elections, marking a significant move in the party's bid to challenge ODM and Jubilee in the upcoming polls.

ANC Secretary General Barack Muluka declared war on Raila Odinga and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, stating that the party was ready to vanquish them in Kibra. 'This is just the beginning of an all-out war we have declared against Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka. The only opposition leader now is Musalia. Raila and Kalonzo are political opportunists who have gone to 'sleep' with Government, claiming that they are feeling cold being in the opposition. We will demonstrate this when we beat Raila in Kibra,' Muluka said.

ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi handed Owalo a direct ticket, and the party wants to use the Kibra by-elections to test its strength for the 2022 contest, where it is expected to field Mudavadi as its flag bearer.

ANC is rejuvenated and ready for the political competition ahead, with Mudavadi noting that the party will award life membership certificates to some of the political stalwarts who have joined the party since August 2017.
