Three Kenyan security guards—Daniel Ngao Maele, Daniel Kimutai, and Hassan Abdallah Awale—died in a fatal road accident while traveling to work in Qatar. They were employed by the European Guardian And Security Services Company (EGSSC), which has a history of labor controversies dating back to 2015 and 2018.
EGSSC issued a statement expressing grief over the loss, describing the deceased as colleagues, fathers, and brothers who shared both hardships and moments of joy with coworkers. The company, one of Qatar’s largest security providers, faced regulatory action in May 2023 for violating Gulf labor laws, according to reports.
Workers had previously staged protests over poor working conditions and low pay, leading to a negotiated salary increase of QR 1,000 (Ksh 30,000) and QR 300 (Ksh 9,000) for food allowances. The accident occurred amid ongoing tensions between the company and its workforce.
This incident follows the 2021 death of Kenyan nurse Beatrice Danielle Dagosi Ogutu in Texas, whose car was found with signs of distress. She was affiliated with Truevine International Inc.
