On August 26, 2019, Ali Punjani, a suspected drug trafficker, was expected to arrive in Kenya via a Kenya Airways flight from Mumbai, India. However, he failed to show up at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
According to Taifa Leo, the flight had departed from Mumbai and landed at JKIA as scheduled, but Punjani was not among the passengers who arrived in Nairobi.
Police investigations revealed that Punjani's name was on the list of passengers expected to board a flight from JKIA to Mombasa's Moi International Airport at 12:30 pm.
However, the investigation showed that Punjani did not enter the country as expected.
"He has not returned to the country. We are investigating to determine if he left India for another destination," said a police officer who wished to remain anonymous.
Punjani had been in India for three weeks, where he allegedly underwent heart surgery.
While in India, police had conducted a search at his luxurious Nyali residence for two days and arrested three suspects.
