On April 1, 2019, a miracle baby was born at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) weighing a mere 400 grams. Baby Jeremy Tubula, born at 24 weeks, has been a symbol of hope for the medical team and his family.

After a remarkable five-month journey, Baby Jeremy has finally been discharged from the hospital, weighing a healthy 3.5 kilograms. The discharge was confirmed by KNH Chief Executive Dr Evanson Kamuri, who described the process as 'phenomenal' for the country and the region.

“Baby Jeremy will be discharged today,” Dr Kamuri said, assuring Kenyans that the hospital's newborn unit offers up-to-date services.

Dr Miriam Karanja, the neonatologist who led Baby Jeremy's care, emphasized that the baby still requires special care due to his low immunity and temperature regulation issues.

Interestingly, Baby Jeremy's discharge marks a milestone in the hospital's history, as he becomes the second baby born at KNH weighing 400 grams, following in the footsteps of Baby Hope Obonyo, who was born with a similar weight eight years ago.

KNH proudly tweeted about Baby Hope's progress, stating, “Baby Hope Obonyo, who was also born at KNH with a birth weight of 400gms, is now a cheerful 8yr old gal leading a normal life.”
