On August 28, 2019, Maryanne Kitany, the estranged wife of Meru senator Mithika Linturi, took to the dock at Nairobi's Milimani Commercial Court to set the record straight in their divorce case.
Kitany, who insisted she is legally married to the politician, revealed that she sought divorce due to Linturi's denial of conjugal rights and his philandering ways.
She alleged that Linturi was a philanderer and occasionally had sex with 'many women in town.'
Kitany further claimed that she went for days without her conjugal rights and that their marriage life was cold.
She told the court, 'I filed for divorce because Linturi was cheating on me. He slept with other women in town. Linturi would come home late, and did not want to give me my conjugal rights.'
Kitany also unleashed photos allegedly snapped during the traditional marriage ceremony in Meru, where she was offered miraa by Linturi to signify their union and her acceptance into the Ameru clan.
She reminded the court that it was her first day to chew khat.
Kitany wants Linturi to be charged with bigamy for allegedly marrying her when he was still in his first marriage with a woman identified as Mercy Kaimenyi.
