On August 27, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested three suspects, including two Tanzanian nationals and a Kenyan, for allegedly defrauding a Nairobi couple of Sh2 million.
The suspects claimed that the couple's property in Westlands, Nairobi had witchcraft paraphernalia, including a snake, cowry shells, gourds, black powders, and assorted clothing.
They convinced the couple to part with Sh2 million to buy a special oil to burn the snake, but upon receiving the money, the suspects disappeared, leaving the snake in the compound.
The three suspects were charged in court on Tuesday and denied the allegations. They were released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 each and the case will be heard on September 26.
