Man Causes Bomb Scare on Kenya Airways Flight ¶
On April 1, a Kenya Airways flight bound for Johannesburg was forced to abort takeoff after a passenger raised a false alarm, claiming a bomb was on board.
The incident occurred at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and led to a three-hour shutdown of the airport.
Chifraye Bekele, the passenger who made the false alarm, was found guilty of imperiling the safety of aircraft and persons on board by Magistrate Christine Njagi.
Bekele claimed he did not make the joke, stating he only spoke Amharic and not English, but the court did not accept his explanation.
He was sentenced to four months in prison or a Sh100,000 fine and has been in custody since the incident.
